Working Tax Credits - Free Boiler Grants
If you currently receive Working Tax Credits or other qualifying benefits then you could be in line for a Free Boiler Grant which would help you replace your old inefficient and costly boiler. The ECO scheme assists householders who receive Working Tax Credits, and it’s replacement Universal Credit, to provide funding for a replacement boiler in the home.
Homeowners and private tenants could be eligible for funding under the Government-backed scheme which provides boiler funding for those in receipt of one of the qualifying benefits, including Working Tax Credits. If this applies to you or someone who permanently resides in your household you could receive help to get a brand new boiler which will help reduce your energy bills significantly.
How does the Free Boiler scheme work?
The ‘Big Six’ energy suppliers including British Gas, EDF Energy, Eon, Npower, Scottish Power and SSE, all provide funding as part of the Government’s ECO Scheme and commitment to reducing carbon emissions. Under the scheme, households in receipt of at least one of the qualifying benefits who have an old boiler more than 7 years old could receive a grant towards a new energy efficient boiler.
If you meet the following conditions then you may qualify for a Free Boiler Grant…
- Receive Working Tax Credits or other benefits
- Homeowner/private tenant in the UK
- Your boiler is 7+ years old
Under the scheme, we can manage everything for you, from your application to installation to all aftercare, without you having to pay us a thing. All our costs are covered by the scheme. This means eligible people on Working Tax Credits or other benefits could get a free boiler or one at a much reduced cost.
How do I know if Working Tax Credits is the benefit I receive?
In all likelihood you are unlikely to still be receiving Working Tax Credit as this has been replaced by Universal Credit for most people. Only those who get or were entitled to the severe disability premium can make a claim for Working Tax Credit. If you are not sure of the benefits that you receive then check your benefit paperwork for the regular payments that you receive.
For most people, who would previously have made a claim for Working Tax Credit, they will now claim under Universal Credit or Pension Credit if they are state pension age or over. Both these benefits are among those that make you likely to be eligible for a boiler grant.
What difference will a new boiler make to me?
The most obvious benefit to having a new boiler will be that your home will feel warmer and it will cost you far less to keep it that way. A new A-rated boiler will operate at a much improved energy efficiency level (usually 90%+), whereas your old boiler may have been operating at a much lower energy efficiency level, perhaps even as low as a 65%.
This means that you spend far less heating your home as a larger proportion of the fuel burned to create heat for your home is actually converted to heat. Over the course of a year this could save you around £300 on your energy bills.
Additionally, as your boiler is operating more efficiently and burning less fuel, this reduces your energy consumption and therefore the amount of greenhouse gas your household produces. This thereby contributes to a reduction of your overall carbon footprint and all goes towards the Government targets of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
